The Hakuba Valley is a year round outdoor sports destination.

Winter is dominated by snow sports as Hakuba received in excess of 10 meters of snow annually. It hosted many events at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Once the snow starts to melt the mountain trails are opened up and some of the best hiking and trekking in Japan is available. Much of the lower altitudes can be bypassed using the ski lifts, taking you up to 1,800 meters.

Summers are relatively cool compared to the rest of Japan and offer a respite fro the stifling heat. Air Conditioning is generally not needed, and an escape to the mountains is a great way to recharge your batteries.

In fall the mountains turn bright red as the leaves change. The views are some of the best in Japan and offer a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere.
